With a unique grain pattern that features ring growths, gum veins and pencil markings, Silvertop Ash offers an attractive finish, wherever it’s used! Distinguished as it is durable, Silvertop Ash Timber is the ideal choice for those that want to stand out from the crowd.
A large Australian hardwood, Silvertop Ash is also known as Coast Ash, Black Ash or simply Silvertop. Commonly used in feature exterior projects such as decking and cladding, thanks to its durability, however, its beauty ensures it also makes an excellent feature timber for a range of interior and exterior projects where a natural finish is desired!
Attractive yet durable, Silvertop Ash is well suited to a wide range of projects, including timber cladding and decking. It is also used for vehicle construction and fencing – however, we think the beauty that in brings to any space means it should always be on display!
Featuring a unique grain pattern made from ring growths and gum veins, Silvertop Ash Timber has always been a crowd favourite. It offers a stunning rich heartwood in a deep honey brown with pink undertones, bringing warmth and character to any space. Whilst the timber is well-suited to most coatings, we recommend staining or oiling the hardwood to ensure its natural tone is still present.
Tough yet durable, Silvertop Ash is easier to work with than you may think. It machines well and responds to standard woodworking tools, ensuring you can build with ease on site. Whilst it is prone to splintering, it accepts most coatings, nails and screws – no advanced timber knowledge needed!
Whether seasoned or unseasoned, Silvertop Ash is rated a reasonably high timber in terms of its strength. With a below ground lifespan of up to 15 years, and an above ground lifespan of up to 40 years, it is an excellent choice for a range of applications – both indoor and outdoor!
Silvertop Ash Timber features a fairly standard shrinkage rate of 10.6% tangential and 5.7% radial, which should be taken into account during the planning process to ensure no gaps and cracks appear as the timber begins to dry.
If you live in an area where the threat of a bushfire is a concern, then Silvertop Ash may be the perfect choice for you! As one of only seven hardwoods that have been approved by the Building Commission in Victoria for use in fire prone areas, it is rated up to BAL 29 – where embers and burning debris are likely, increasing the likelihood of exposure to radiant heat.
Found throughout Australia, Silvertop Ash Timber grows in abundance across the South Easter Coast – from Tasmania and Victoria, and up into New South Wales. Its availability ensures we stock or can quickly source this timber, ensuring your project timeline isn’t affected due to delays.
