Ironbark Timber

Ironbark

This species is an Australian favourite, thanks to its long-lasting and fire-resistant properties. As a rule, its predominant tone is a brilliant red that ensures it stands out from the crowd in any build.

Strong and Durable Ironbark

One of the most prized hardwoods in the country, Ironbark timber has been an incredibly popular species for over 200 years. Grown across Victoria and throughout New South Wales and Queensland, it is a staple for structural projects and feature builds alike.

Uses

Ironbark can be used for a wide range of applications, thanks to its strength and durability. The ideal choice for building construction, flooring, decking and cladding, as well as both indoor and outdoor furniture, we’re confident it will be right for your project!

Ironbark Timber Features

Offering a distinctive finish, Ironbark timber is known for its deep red hue, featuring shades of grey and light pinks, depending on the tree – ensuring a unique finish. It offers an attractive fine and even textured pattern with an interlocking grain. We suggest oiling or staining your timber to highlight its attractive colouring or leaving it to age naturally, the choice is yours!

Easy of Workability

Despite the stunning finish of Ironbark and extreme longevity, it can be a difficult species to work with. For that reason, it may not be the ideal choice for projects that require fine detailing. We recommend contacting our experienced team for a professional solution to the task at hand.

Strength and Durability

Thanks to its longevity and durability, Ironbark has been the timber of choice for many builders for over 200 years. With a lifespan of more than 25 years below ground and well over 40 years above ground – ensuring that it is the ideal species for external use, as well as for internal applications.

“We’re pretty fussy about the quality of timber we receive. Our clients demand quality and so do we. Everist Timber takes care with the material they stock to ensure we and other builders get the best available timber”
Luke Williams

Drying and Shrinkage

This timber is slow to dry and it is important that care is taken during the process to minimise surface checking. It also offers reasonably high shrinkage rates, with tangential rates of 6.3% and radial rates of 3.5% – hardwoods generally offer between 3 to 12% and 3 to 5% respectively.

Fire Prone Areas

Ironbark is appropriate for use in most areas that face the threat of a bushfire, as it has been rated between BAL 12.5 to 19. As a result, you can likely take advantage of the stunning finish in your suburb with confidence – speak with our experienced team for information regarding your specific location.
